an easy way to stretch your coffee dollars

happy monday!

catching up from the weekend? here’s what you missed…. i got a new camera and took a lot of photos with it. and that’s pretty much it! ;)

i’m feeling a little nervous about this week – i have a presentation on thursday that i’m working on plus i’ve got some other projects that i’m hoping to make progress on as well. it’s going to be a busy one!

yesterday was definitely a great way to round out the weekend, though…

packers won and are now 13-0 for the season! it was a pretty great game.

capone thought so too! haha, actually he was so sad when i put that jersey on him that he only wore it for about 5 minutes before i took it off. silly puppy!

i was a little extra wound up for the game though…i drank 3 huge mugs of coffee yesterday morning and it stuck with me all day! i usually only have one or two, but the coffee was tasting extra delicious, i guess…

we brew a fresh pot of coffee every morning and it’s gone by the end of the day, but yesterday it was gone within a couple hours!

we really like trying good flavored coffees – yesterday’s was a new creme brulee one that brad got from st. nick!

the downside to our preference toward flavored fancier coffee is that it’s often a bit pricey. now, i know that a $8.99+ bag of coffee is cheap compared to a daily coffee-shop habit or something like that, but it’s still tough to swallow when i’m looking at my grocery bill. especially if i see three flavors that i absolutely must try.

but, i learned a little tip from my momma that helps stretch those $8.99 bags of coffee a bit farther.

all you need is your fancy flavored coffee and some plain, unflavored coffee (we use trader joe’s coffee beans that i get for $4.99 per huge canister).

when you’re setting up your coffee to brew, mix half flavored (expensive) coffee and half unflavored (more affordable) coffee. and that’s it! the flavor is still just as strong, especially if you brew the coffee on the “strong” setting and your flavored coffee lasts twice as long!

i know this seems like a bit of a no-brainer, but until i saw my mom mixing her coffee, it never occurred to me, so i though i’d pass it on to you too!

hope it helps someone! Smile

do you have any tips to stretch your grocery budget?

i’m always looking for ways!
