foodie penpals: november treats

i am excited to be participating in foodie penpals again for the month of november! i participated in september, but then took october off. i was pumped to be receiving another box of foodie treats – this time from laura.

and of course, she didn’t disappoint!

i received my package from her a couple weeks ago and have enjoyed trying some of the treats she sent!

but first, a bit more about foodie penpals

it’s a food exchange through the mail organized by the lovely lindsay of the lean green bean!

here’s how it works, straight from the mastermind herself:

-on the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. it will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.

-you will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. on the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!

-the boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! the spending limit is $15. the box must also include something written. this can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!

-you are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)

-foodie penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. if you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. if two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month. *u.s. residents only please at this time- hopefully we can expand soon!*

if you’re interested in participating for december, please send  an email to lindsay and include the following information:

-your full name

-your email address

-your blog name/address (if applicable)

-your twitter handle (if applicable)

lindsay needs to hear from you by december 4th as pairings will be emailed on december 5th!

ok, back to the treats!

i loved this package because of all the little mini goodies that were packed in it! i love trying new things, and mini versions are the perfect way to do that.

the first thing i had to try was this chocolate from italy.

laura recently took a trip to italy and she said these were all over when she was there…and i see why! it was delicious – creamy and hazelnutty. those europeans are very good at combining chocolate + hazelnut and i appreciate that.

another favorite item was these primal strips.

they’re like vegan jerky and are made of tempeh. i had seen them on blogs before (i think on laura’s!) and was interested in trying them.

the verdict? i liked them! i definitely wouldn’t mistake them for beef or venison jerky, but they were still good and i’d eat them again. laura, where do you find these?

of course, i was pumped to receive coffee!

even though i don’t throw back half a pot every day, i probably have coffee 3-4x per week. i just love it so much!  i’ve never tried starbucks via, so i’m excited to give that a whirl. and really, godiva = good. hazelnut = good. put them together and you know you can’t go wrong!!

after i got over how adorable this little jar of honey is, i realized how good it sounded.

orange blossom? yes, please. i love flavored honeys! brad eats honey on his english muffin + peanut butter every morning and i emphasized very strongly to him that i at least needed to be able to try this stuff before he ate it all!

and finally, another completely new-to-me item…

a pumpkin pecan spice bar!

i love trying things like this. it was absolutely delicious! i really enjoyed the pecan flavors in it.

this post would be a mile long if i detailed every single thing laura sent, so i’ll stop there and just tell you some of the other treats she included:

  • mini larabars + a couple other new-to-me bars
  • adorable wine-themed napkins (very appropriate for me!)
  • justin’s chocolate peanut butter packet
  • a delicious pastry/cookie
  • hot cocoa mix
  • a sweet note explaining some of the items

wow! thank you so much for spoiling me rotten laura! i loved everything (and brad enjoyed getting to taste all of these goodies too. 🙂 )

i sent a package to rachel, so you should go see what local madison treats i sent to her!

you should also check out lindsay’s blog today for a link-up of everyone who participated this month! (i’d list them all, but there were 40+ people and that would take a really long time….)

after waking up late yesterday, i think i’m finally settling back into “regular” life after the long weekend. 🙂

we put up our christmas decorations last night (pictures soon) and the apartment is so festive and so freaking adorable, i can’t stand it!

have you ever tried vegan jerky?

which of those treats would you be most excited to try?

have you signed up to participate in foodie penpals yet?!?
