a new toy

happy saturday, everyone! hope you all have exciting plans for the weekend.

i’m up bright (actually, still dark…) and early today because i’m heading up to speak at a garden club meeting about my research this morning. hi to anyone who is checking out my blog from that!

yesterday was a kind of exciting day for my kitchen. we got a new toy!

first things first though…

i changed things up again and had a lemon chobani with love grown granola mixed in (my last bag – so sad!) and some grapes!

lunch was leftovers.

roasted potatoes and a tiny goat cheese turkey burger. i have to say it again – goat cheese takes these burgers from good to awesome! it’s so flavorful.

then, when i arrived home i had a fun package waiting for me from miss jessica!

she sent me some cherry chocolate chip muffins! the post office pre-crumbled them for me so they’re all ready for oatmeal topping. Winking smile thanks jess! they’re delicious.

after ripping into the muffins, i had to play with our new toy!

we got a juicer!

after seeing mama pea’s post yesterday about juicing, i decided to just check craigslist for a deal on a juicer. success! i found this lalane juicer for $25! i had to drive to the complete other side of town to get it, but it was so worth it!

of course i immediately went to the store to get juicing supplies.

way back in spring, brad and i tried our first juice together – a red zinger at vegadeli in st. louis. we loved it, so those were the flavors i decided to go with for my first try!

apples, strawberries, and ginger.

all put into the juicer and wow – so much juice! i think i was expecting barely any juice to come out because people say so often that you hardly get any juice out when you juice things and you have to put so much into the juicer, but i got a ton of juice out! maybe apples + strawberies is just a very juicy combo, or maybe this juicer really does get 30% more juice out of the produce like it claims to. now i wish i could do a side-by-side test!

back to the juice.

delicious! and look how pretty!! i love it.

of course we had to juice again when brad got home so he could try it! this time we added in more variety.

romain lettuce, carrots, celery, apples, ginger, strawberries.

the result wasn’t as pretty as my red zinger, but it was still tasty!

after juicing, we got to work on dinner.

brad loves the baked ziti from olive garden and he requested it for dinner last night.

this meal was so not healthy or balanced. tons of carbs and fat. but it was definitely delicious!

and i ate mine over a bed of spinach for at least a little bit more nutritional value.

we both really thought this meal tasted good, but i couldn’t get out of my head how much cheese was actually in it! i’m shocked that i might be saying this, but i think it was a bit too much cheese. it would have still been delicious with half as much as the recipe called for.

ok lovelies, i’m off to get my day started! hope you have a great saturday!

do you have any suggestions for delicious juicing combinations?

i immediately went to spabettie to get some inspiration, but i’d love to hear more!

  1. what a fun new toy! glad you could find one on craigslist!

  2. OH MY GOD. I owe you new muffins! How does the post office do that? I even put them in a muffin container. Seriously they must smush them on purpose. Ah. I am so sorry!

I’ve had a juicer on my birthday/Christmas list for ages now and I never thought to check Craigslist! What a steal!

p.s. Where did you get the little baggie for your grapes? I kind of need those too. 🙂

I would like the recipe for your baked ziti
