fondue for two

brad and i have been married for exactly 20 days now, and in celebration of that (very random) milestone, i decided to make a semi-romantic dinner for us last night. it was made less romantic by the fact that we watched the office while eating it, but i’m going to choose to ignore that fact. Smile

earlier this week, julie posted about the cheesy beer fondue that she made for the secret recipe club. as soon as i saw it, i knew this was something that brad would love (and that i’d like a lot too!).

it was on the menu last night.

i made no changes to what julie did and served it with beer bread, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, and an apple.

the fondue pot was a wedding gift from our friends, and we were so excited to try it out!

we also had wine with dinner.

i got to try out our new wine pourer from crate & barrel (purchased with a wedding gift card!).

it worked perfectly! usually i end up licking the side of the wine bottle after i pour to get the drips of wine. this time there were no drips! magic. Smile

capone was nearby during the whole meal.

but he was being a good boy, so brad gave him a couple apple slices! spoiled puppy…

doesn’t his neck look much better? it’s healing up very well!

we were both very satisfied after our indulgent date night. at least we had plenty of veggies, right?!?

have you ever had fondue?

when i was younger, we would have fondue every year on new years eve. we’d drink sparkling grape juice and have toasts late at night. this year for new years we recreated our fondue tradition with our friends and some real wine! i am a big fan of fondue. it’s such a fun, social, meal idea!

  1. What a fun and fancy dinner. Looks wonderful. Can I come over next time it’s Fondue night? 🙂

Unless you count the little bowls of syrup/ketchup/yogurt I give the kids for dipping, no, we don’t fondue.

  2. I’ve never been a big “cheese” or “bread” person, but there is something about fondue that makes it amazing…maybe it’s the dipping that makes it like “playing with your food” or the messiness of it that is so fun? 🙂

One of my favorite fondues has been a beer cheese one into which we dipped pretzels and PICKLES!

[But I can’t help but fall back on “everything’s good dipped in chocolate”]

We actually had a fondue party for my wedding rehearsal dinner! It was sooooo good, and actually not too difficult to do since you can prep most of the dippers ahead of time! I ❤ Cheese 🙂
