wedding central

it has been wedding central over here in sarah learns- land for the past couple of days!

brad and i are getting married in 99 days! aka, almost 3 months. and as of monday, i hadn’t finalized or ordered our invitations yet.

bride fail.

see, i had been working on the invitations quite a bit, but i was having a problem with my favorite font distorting when i went from a powerpoint file to a pdf (or a jpeg, or a png, etc. – i tried them all!).

before i converted to the proper printing format.

and after… not good. see how the “&” symbol is lost and the curlies on my “t” and brad’s “k” & “l” are cut off? it did that no matter what i did! 😦

so finally, tuesday, i said, “screw this” and went looking for inspiration for a new invitation look. and oh boy i found one i loved!

when i saw these invites after randomly searching in google images, i knew what i wanted to do. so i spent about 4 hours making different colored circles and editing the fonts and layout until i came up with this:

and this

and more.

brad and i had decided to order our invitations from vistaprint because i’ve had good luck with them in the past and because we got an awesome deal on everything through ebates! (full disclosure: that’s a referral link)

i uploaded everything on tuesday night and hit “complete order”. and now i’m holding my breath until they arrive!

i hope they turn out as awesome as i’m imagining them, because if so, then we got an amazing deal on them! i guess we’ll see before i go singing the praises of vistaprint + ebates discounts though…

my next wedding project? a guest book inspired by savvy julie!

i also have some really fun posts planned for the next couple days/weeks including: lessons learned from moving in with a significant other, an apartment update (!!!), 101 in 1001 updates, and more!

are you a diy-er?

any diy wedding tips for me?!

i’m also planning to make our escort/place cards, table numbers, ceremony programs, thank you’s…

we also still have to buy gifts for our bridal party.

anyone have good ideas for those gifts?! or parent gifts?!

  1. My sister is super artsy/crafty, so she designed my wedding invitations – I loved them!

I really like your design – super cute. I bet it feels good to have that crossed off your list!

  2. They look very pretty! I want to be a diy-er but in the end I might say screw it and end up buying them!

thank you! i’m definitely saying “screw it” when it comes to some of the wedding stuff. not the invites though! πŸ™‚

  3. Oh girl, those are so pretty! We’re total DIYers too! We ordered the pieces of our invitations, but put them together ourselves to make it cheaper that way πŸ˜‰

  4. I cannot help you in your planning….but I’m loving seeing what YOU come up with πŸ™‚

I saw the cutest thing for thank you cards that I wish I had done. It’s a photo taken on the wedding day with the bride and groom each holding a piece of paper, one reading “thank” the other reading “you”. Afterward the couple just printed them as the card front. So cute!

I think easy parent gifts are DIY gift baskets tailored to each person. Wine goodies, local-made treates, gifts from your honeymoon destination, cookbooks, gardening things, etc. So many options, just arrange it in a basket and stick a bow on!

    • Sarah says:

oh i’ve seen pictures of that too! that’s such a cute idea.

note to self: add making “thank” and “you” signs to to-do list! πŸ˜‰

  6. I’m ordering our invites this weekend! So exciting – no clue what to get parents….I might do dinner out somewhere really nice because they have everything they need πŸ™‚

    • Sarah says:

      yay for ordering invites!!! πŸ™‚

i feel like i have the same dilemma with the parent gifts – especially with brad’s parents! they have everything already!

  7. Cute invite design! I love Vistaprint. I order all my personal networking cards through them, and I’ve never had problems.

  8. love the invites!! so cute. brett got his groomsmen nice coolers on wheels and they really liked them!

    • Sarah says:

      thanks love!

oooh, i do like that idea of coolers. brad’s stuck on the idea of flasks, but i feel like that’s kind of always done…

  9. I did DIY invites, save-the-dates, and Thank-you cards. I saved a boat-load of money, but honestly, the stress of it all was so intense and the time it took was so ridiculous that if I were to do it again I’d just pay the extra $1000 or whatever and have it done for me. I know that sounds unreasonable, but sometimes time & sanity is just priceless! ; ) Good luck though, I’m sure it’ll turn out great!

    • Sarah says:

oh girl, i hear you on the stress of designing everything yourself! i know i could have just paid way more and had someone else do it, but now i’m to the point where i’ve put so much time into it that i refuse to let it go to waste!
