day 9: my rock.

ok, i know i’ve talked about my sister, liz, in a lot of posts before. want to know why? it’s because she is 100% my rock and i love her to death. she is the person who has known me from (almost) day 1 – actually day 14 months, but i’ve known her from HER day 1! who has grown up with me. who has experienced almost everything with me.

the topic for day 9 in the 30 day challenge is to post of photo of the person who has gotten you through the most.

we’ve gone trough a lot together.

we were best friends and playmates through elementary school.

we survived the death of 3 grandparents.

we got through our parents’ divorce.

she got me through an awful year of bullying in 6th grade. she let me hang out with her and her friends, even though they were “cool” and i spent that year being teased by the “cool” kids in my grade.

we went through grueling softball practices together – we played the same position so we literally knew exactly what the other person was going through.

i was there for her when she got screwed over by guys.

she was there for me through several break-ups and back-togethers with my high school boyfriend. she was there when i finally had the strength the end that relationship for good.

we worked together at our home-town hospital on weekends and then later worked together at culvers in high school!

we got through the death of our father together when we were a junior and a senior in high school. she was the only person i had to find on those days when i needed to get out of school and needed to be with someone. she is the ONLY one who understands to this day, the internal struggles and guilt i have with my memories of our dad.

i was there when she HATED being away for college and had to make the hard decision to transfer back to our community college after a week of undergrad.

she visited me in st. louis and met all of my friends at school.

we got tattoos in memory of our dad together!

she was the one who actually said, “hey sarah, you and brad always have so much to talk about and get along so well – i think he likes you”. and that opened my eyes to the love of my life!

she gets me.

she isn’t afraid to reality check me when i’m being a stubborn brat.

she’s doing to be the maid of honor at my wedding.

she is my best friend in the entire world and i don’t know what i would do without her.

my sister is my rock.

  2. liZ says:

πŸ™‚ I love you lady! You gave me a few tears on that one.

  3. i love this post, it it so sweet! I feel the same way about my sister (minus the happy early days – we were only friends AFTER moving outta the house). In fact, my relationship with my sister is so strong that it makes me think about my potential future children – I HAVE to have 2 girls because I couldn’t imagine not having my sister and I don’t want to deprive a child of a sister companion. Of course I know those things can’t be planned…..but that’s my plan : )

i think the exact same thing about my future children! i really want to have two girls close in age like my sister and i! orrrr, just boys because they’re less drama, but if i have a girl, she needs a sister!

  4. Cait says:

i love that you got MATCHING tattoos. my sister and i are taking this europe trip, which obviously i’ve been blogging about, but we always talked about doing matching tattoos or something that symbolized both of us together. xo love the post!

  5. Oh, Sarah. I love this post. You two have been through so much, and it’s so nice to hear that you appreciate your relationship with your sister.

    • Sarah says:

thanks courtney! i am so thankful for our great relationship – i know a lot of other sisters who don’t have the same bond. it makes me feel very lucky! πŸ™‚

  6. awwwwwwww sarah that is so awesome that you and your sister are so close! ❀ it sounds absolutely perfect =)

  9. vixter2010 says:

Aw I love this so sweet and moving. I understand how you both feel, I lost my father too and though I don’t have a sister, I’m really close to my mum. Thanks for sharing!

    • Sarah says:

that kind of experience definitely makes you closer to the others who are going through it too. we’re both very close with our mom too, which is awesome!
