what i ate tuesday

jenn is hosting a really cool series called “what i ate wednesday” over on her blog, so yesterday, i took photos of everything i ate so i could play! πŸ™‚

i’ve gotta say, i might have stepped it up a notch from my normal food so that i had something fun to share, but that was fine with me! πŸ™‚

breakfast was a protein smoothie.

it had:

  • banana
  • spinach
  • vanilla protein powder
  • chia seeds
  • frozen blueberries
  • chocolate almond milk

then it was topped with:

  • coconut butter, melted and then drizzled on top
  • bear naked fruit & nut granola

*****

around 10:30 i was needing a little something something to get me through to lunch, so i decided to walk to starbucks and cash in my free birthday drink!

i got a tall skinny hazelnut DECAF latte. and i ate it with an orange (and a vitamin)!

*****

lunch was eaten in a weekly lunch-time seminar. i had a lot of interested comments/questions on my food! on monday night i whipped up a batch of “fried” rice that was packed full of veggies! i’ve had some rice paper sitting in my pantry cabinet for a very long time, so i rolled up some fried rice in them and had “spring rolls”!

i drizzled a bit of homemade dressing on top:

  • 1tsp sesame oil
  • 1 T rice vinegar
  • 1 T low sodium soy sauce

it was a very filling lunch! πŸ™‚

*****

i alway need a little snackie when i get home from work, so i had two tj’s ginger snaps! i LOVE these things!

*****

dinner was a bit boring because it contained more of my rice from lunch (i made a HUGE batch). this time i used a tj’s whole wheat tortilla, spread a laughing cow wedge on it, added a big handfull of spinach, some rice mix, and topped with hot sauce! mmm, this was a tasty creation.

*****

i had a late night workout planned (ok, not late night, but 8pm) to watch the biggest loser, but when i got to the gym i realize that the state of the union was on – so i ran while watching that instead! πŸ™‚

anyway, i needed a little replenishment after my run, so i had a larabar.

i had a headache and thought i needed some water and protein, so i chugged a bottle of water and had a couple mushrooms dipped in hummus! random, but good.

*****

and there you have it! lots of food. Β it was hard to remember to take photos of all my food all day! it was interesting to write it out on here though! hope you enjoyed seeing a day in my life through food. and thanks again to jenn for hosting this series!

have you ever documented a day of food? what do you think of it?

i’ve had to keep food diaries before for studies or doctor appointment, but i don’t think i could do it like this every day!

  1. i love that way your pics look! so fun. and i was JUST thinking of making myself some spring rolls for lunch! definitely doing it now!

    • Sarah says:

it’s the instagram app on the iphone! seriously, my new favorite thing. πŸ™‚

can i send you my spring roll pic too, for lindsay’s lunchbox, or is that cheating?!?

  2. Everyone doing this series is making me hungry! All your meals look so good and that lunch is such a clever idea.

    • Sarah says:

thanks, heather! it was kind of fun writing about my whole days’ food this morning! it would get really old really quickly if i did that every day though. i’d go crazy and no one would come back because i eat the same things over & over again!

  3. movesnmunchies says:

haha i love this idea!! you have some great eats!! mushrooms and hummus.. INTERESTING!

    • Sarah says:

haha, it was almost 10pm and i knew i wanted some kind of veggie with hummus – and mushrooms were the only things i had cut up! so i went with it. πŸ™‚ it was pretty good!

  4. Your totally making me want to make a smoothie now =) What a great day of food~! =) So flipping stoked you played my what I ate game with me ❀ Thanks girl!

and the mushroom with hummus? omg LMAO! I bet it rocked

  5. Hi – clicking over from Peas and Crayons. Glad to find your blog! The free birthday drink from Starbucks has to be one of the best gifts ever – I felt so frivolous ordering without worrying about cost! πŸ™‚

All you food bloggers with Trader Joe pictures make me a little envious. Or a lot envious. I lived in MN for a while and loved TJs. We are now in TX and the closest Trader Joes is 600 miles away.

    • Sarah says:

hi michelle! thanks for stopping by! πŸ™‚ i was so pumped when i got my free drink coupon – i agree that it’s nice to order ANYTHING you want.

aww, i’d be in tj’s withdrawal if i had to move away now. going to trader joe’s for me is like my fiance going into best buy – i want EVERYTHING!

  6. I’ve never documented a day of food. But I am thinking of starting a food journal. I pick all day long , so for me, it may be good to see how much I really do consume, because all those little bites here and there do add up!

    • Sarah says:

oh for sure! especially when you don’t eat full meals, there’s always the chance that you’re not taking in ENOUGH calories too! a food jornal for a week or two would definitely help see if you’re getting too many/too few calories and that you’re getting enough protein/fat!

  7. okay, ANYTHING dipped in hummus is good – i don’t care how random! : )
